Untainted Parallel (2011)

Daniel has choreographed “Untainted Parallel” for Northern Ballet’s Research and Development Choreographic Showcase which was performed at base in Quarry hill in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre on the 17th and 18th of June 2011.

The music used for this 6 minute piece was the ‘3rd movement of the Rachmaninov Sonata for Cello and Piano (Opus 19-III Andante)’ and was performed live by Northern Ballet’s cellist Sasha Volpov and Assistant Music Director-pianist Nigel Gaynor, as his last performances with the company as resident.
It was danced by Victoria Sibson, Giuliano Contadini, Anna Blackwell and Tobias Batley.
This was the first workshop of its kind for Northern Ballet in collaboration with Phoenix Dance Theatre and it has been very succesfully conducted and received by those who attended the performances.

“This Rachmaninov piece of music is intensely inspiring, romantic and melancholic with the Cello and the Piano intertwining the theme in parallels of fluidity and turmoil. In listening to this music I explored the idea that relationships between people can get tainted by all sorts of reasons and events despite their best intentions and feelings for each other.

The “Untainted Parallel” is what remains locked, as if in a mirror of strong yet unreachable possibilities of what could or might have been.”
