Biography

IMG_0014Daniel de Andrade is from Brazil and came to the United Kingdom to finish his ballet studies in 1985.

Through his performing career he danced with National Ballet of Portugal, London City Ballet, Zurich Opera House Ballet, The Scottish Ballet and joined Northern Ballet as principal artist in 1995.

Daniel became part of Northern Ballet Artistic Staff in 2004 also guesting for companies in the UK and abroad.

Throughout his career Daniel has been dedicated to developing his work as a Freelance Choreographer. He has produced works of all scales both for Northern Ballet as well as freelance. Most recently Daniel created his first full length ballet production of “Nijinsky – God of the Dance” for the Slovakian National Ballet.

Awarded the 2011/12 Amanda Miller editDance Fellowship on the Clore Leadership Programme he was mentored by Wayne McGregor and seconded to Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

Daniel is the Artistic Director of Northern Ballet’s “Short Ballets for Small People” which has since 2012 extensively toured ballet productions especially created for children.

Daniel is on the board of Directors of “Fertile Ground”, a newly created dance company based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne which gives selected graduates from the North East of England the opportunity to tour professionally for one whole season.

Now Artistic Associate for Northern Ballet Daniel continues to work intensively in the creation, development and nurturing of high standard productions.
