Fatal Kiss was originally choreographed for Northern Ballet’s 45th anniversary Sapphire Gala in March 2015.
This is a Pas de Deux created on leading dancers Lucia Solari and Javier Torres about a man who meets his death in the form of a last kiss which he is reluctant to accept.
The music, performed live by the musicians sharing the stage with the dancers, is Astor Piazzola’s Otoño Porteño (Buenos Aires Autumn) from Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires). This is a very dramatic piece of music with many changes of dynamics.
Another Piazzola song called Ballada para mi muerte (Ballad for my death), with lyrics telling the story of a man coming to terms with meeting his death, inspired the underlying theme for this pas de deux.
